Chicago Sports Anchor Reportedly On the Way Out After Remark About Co-Anchor

By Kevin Eck

WLS sportscaster Mark Giangreco is working on an exit package with the ABC-owned station after he used the word “ditzy” when referring to anchor Cheryl Burton during a newscast, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

On Jan. 28, Giangreco commented on a video of a hockey player sanding drywall with his stick and then shooting a puck into a garbage can by saying, “Gotta get him a show on DIY Network. We’ll call it House Fix with Sticks, and Cheryl can play the ditzy, combative interior decorator. I got it all worked out.'”

The Sun-Times says that Burton, who has worked at WLS since 1992, complained to station management after the remark. Giangreco has been off the air ever since.
