Chicago Anchor Leaving Station After 20 Years

WGN midday anchor Julie Unruh is leaving the Chicago Nexstar-owned station after 20 years.

“I’ve been proud to work alongside you as I’ve watched Channel 9 grow from a few small, local newscasts each day to broadcasting nearly nonstop, earning our rightful place in a competitive news market,” Chicago media writer Robert Feder reported Unruh told staffers in an email. “It’s been truly amazing to watch. I’m looking forward to stepping aside and spending more time with my family. The time is right.”

The Chicago native started working at the station in 2001 and was promoted to anchor in 2020. Before that, she worked for CBS News, KTKA in Topeka, Kan. and Chicagoland TV.
