New home. New news director.
KING 5 in Seattle, in its new studio for about a week, also has a new newsroom leader. Assistant news director Cheryl Carson, who has been interim news director since Mark Ginther moved to Dallas NBC station KXAS in August, has been given the job permanently.
Carson is the first woman to lead KING’s newsroom. “It has been an amazing journey to work alongside KING’s best to understand the station’s foundation and to now have the opportunity to lead the way in our new facility while protecting our station’s journalistic and community service legacy,” said Carson in a statement. “I am honored to serve and lead this outstanding organization as News Director,” she added.
“We know it has been a long wait, but it was our responsibility as of one of America’s very best news organizations and Seattle’s most successful media company to find the right person for the job,” added Ray Heacox, KING 5 president and GM. “We interviewed inspiring news talent from around the country and are pleased to announce that Cheryl Carson has accepted the challenge to lead KING 5 News into the future.”
Carson joined KING as assistant news director in 2012. She joined from KTTV, the Fox O and O in Los Angeles, where she was senior EPP. She’s also been news director for WGHP in Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point and held EP roles in Las Vegas and Greenville, N.C.
