After four Marines were killed and a police officer was shot near Chattanooga, Tennessee, local stations blew out regular programing to keep local viewers updated on what was happening.

The stations were initially reporting on the shooting of the officer after gunshots were reported at a military recruiting center and at a U.S. Naval Reserve Center more than seven miles apart.

CBS affiliate WDEF started coverage during its Noon newscast. Anchor Alisha Searl was later joined by John Mercer.
