Spectrum News parent company Charter Communications has released a statement regarding the murder of Spectrum News 13 reporter Dylan Lyons and the injury of his photojournalist Wednesday. The statement was written before Lyons was publicly identified.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and the other lives senselessly taken today. Our thoughts are with our employee’s family, friends and co-workers during this very difficult time. We remain hopeful that our other colleague who was injured makes a full recovery.

This is a terrible tragedy for the Orlando community.”

Around 4 p.m. ET, Lyons and his colleague were on the scene of an Orange County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a murder that occurred hours earlier in Pine Hills, outside Orlando.

Investigators said the man who killed a woman in the earlier incident, returned to the scene and shot Lyons, his colleague and a 9-year-old in a nearby home. The suspect is in custody.

WESH reporter Luana Munoz broke down while reporting outside the hospital where Lyons and his colleague had been rushed after the shooting.
