WJZY anchor Barbara Lash took it all off for the cameras Monday night.
The Charlotte FOX owned station aired a newsroom discussion on whether it was OK for women to go without make up. The talk was inspired by Colbie Caillat‘s song “Try” featuring the lyrics, “Take your makeup off/ Let your hair down/ Take a breath/ Look into the mirror at yourself/ Don’t you like you?/ Cause I like you,”
Joined by chief meteorologist Rob Eicher, Lash removed her make up telling viewers the whole point was to see if she had the courage to do so. She wrote about it on the station website.
In the mornings I do; especially when I’m taking my daughter to daycare, my face is bare. But one day I had on a Fox46 shirt and one of my daughter’s teachers asked about what I do for a living. Eventually she said, “Oh! You’re the lady I saw on the news the other night!?!” Instantly, I felt like makeup was a necessity.
This video challenged me to consciously “try” to be me, naturally. Doing it on air, even for part of the show….let’s just say….I’ve learned self-acceptance is sometimes a choice.
