Charlotte Anchor Undergoes Surgery to Remove Thyroid Cancer

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WSOC anchor Allison Latos is out of surgery.

The Charlotte, N.C., anchor just yesterday told viewers that she would be off the air to treat a recent diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Her procedure to remove the cancer was held this morning, and Latos posted a post-op photo of herself with bandages around her neck.

“Thyroid is gone! I’m glad to be home ❤️ #thankyou so much to everyone for your prayers & well wishes,” Latos wrote.

Latos said she’ll be off air for about a week while she recovers, but expects to be back soon. Yesterday, she thanked the viewer who called to express concern about a lump on her neck, which prompted her to get checked out by her doctor.

“There is a very real possibility that her phone call saved my life,” she said then.

Latos had not been back on the air for long before today’s procedure. She had only returned to the desk in July after nearly 80 days off to mourn the death of her second daughter, Hannah, who died only hours after she was born in May.
