The Meredith-owned CBS affiliate in Atlanta has a new News Director.
WGCL has hired longtime news exec, Steve Doerr. Doerr was news director at WCAU in Philadelphia, WRC in Washington D.C., WOIO in Cleveland and WSYX in Columbus, Ohio.
The station’s general manager issued this memo to the staff:

I am happy to announce Steve Doerr will be joining WGCL as News Director.
Steve comes to us with a rich history and both news and upper station management
And is uniquely qualified to take on this important role here.Steve was News Director at WCAU in Philly, WRC in DC, and Also WOIO in Cleveland as well as WSYX in Columbus
Ohio. Steve was also Senior VP for News, Promotion and Programming for the NBC O&O’s.
As General Manager Steve ran WLNE in Providence and KXAS in Dallas. Steve also
brings with him a strategic viewpoint from his consultant work with AR&D and CJ&N.Steve is here today and tomorrow to meet the staff and will start work
