Michael Spencer has been named anchor of the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscast on CBS Colorado (KCNC).
Spencer will anchor alongside Karen Leigh, and will succeed Jim Benemann when he retires from the Denver CBS owned station at the end of March 2023.
“As our main sports anchor, Michael has developed a connection with people across Colorado,” said general manager Tim Wieland. “He is authentic, cares deeply about our state, and is committed to serving our diverse communities. His move into the news anchor position is a testament to his many talents, and a recognition of the trust Michael has built with Coloradans.”
Spencer joined the station as a sports anchor in June of 2016.
“Moving to this station was my dream job and reporting live from Washington D.C. for my first assignment was an unbelievable way to make my debut,” said Spencer. “Since I arrived in Colorado, Jim Benemann has been a great mentor and friend. I have some big shoes to fill, but I’m excited for the opportunity and am thrilled that I get to anchor alongside Karen Leigh on a nightly basis.”

I know our viewers who’ve followed Michael’s sports reporting will enjoy watching him in his new role.”
Spencer started his career at KMID in Midland, Texas before moving to KAMR in Amarillo, Texas. After Amarillo, Michael moved to WATE in Knoxville, Tenn., before joining KCNC.
