CBS Chicago News Director Leaves Station, Returns to Milwaukee

WBBM news director Jeff Kiernan is leaving his position at the CBS owned station in Chicago. He’ll head back to WTMJ in Milwaukee where his broadcast career started.

Kiernan started at the NBC affiliate in the 1980’s as an anchor and eventually became the station’s news director.

“It’s a full-circle moment for me,” Kiernan said in a statement. “As passionate as I am about good reporting and powerful storytelling, I’m just as passionate about the Milwaukee area. To return to a community and a station that gave me my start is truly exciting and extremely humbling.”

The Milwaukee Sentinel Journal reports Kiernan will oversee the broadcast news operations, digital and social media content for the Scripps-owned station.

This news comes a week after CBS 2 general manager Marty Wilke announced her plans to retire.

Kiernan spent nine years as WBBM’s news director. He was previously the news director at WBZ in Boston.
