CBS Atlanta Loses Another News Director, Searching For Seventh in Nine Years

WGCL, CBS 46 in Atlanta is looking for its seventh news director in nine years.

AJC.com is reporting taht news director, Frank Volpicella, has agreed to part ways with Meredith-owned station.

He’s been at the station less than a year. General manager Mark Pimentel sent a note to the staff. He wrote, in part, “Frank and I decided it was not a good fit so we parted ways. I have a world of respect for Frank and his news judgment. Volpicella’s tenure was the briefest of the six most recent news directors. He came from Austin.

Volpicella replaced Larry Perret who was ND from September 2014- May 2016. Before Perret, there was Lane Michaelson who ran the news department for 15 months: April 2013 – July 2014. Before Michaelson was Eric Ludgood who was at the station for 22 months, from March 2011 – January 2013. From May 2008 – March 2011, Steve Schwaid was news director. And before Schwaid, Rick Erbach ran WGCL’s news department for three years, from January 2005 – May 2008.
