Candidate Apologizes for Calling Boston Reporter ‘Sweetheart’

By Mark Joyella

Charlie Baker’s a Republican candidate for governor in Massachusetts, and recently he’s been working to win over women voters. So an exchange Tuesday with political reporter Sharman Sacchetti of Fox owned WFXT was a setback. Baker dismissed a question from Sacchetti, calling her “sweetheart”, a move that’s put Baker on the defensive and forced him to apologize:

Baker, the Republican candidate for Massachusetts governor, was answering questions from a group of journalists when Fox 25 political reporter Sharman Sacchetti began to ask a question about Democratic criticisms.

“Democrats are saying, they just put out an email–” Saccheti began before being interrupted.

“Ok, this is going to be the last one, sweetheart,” Baker said, patting her on the shoulder.

“Sweetheart?” Saccheti responded.

“I’m kidding,” Baker said.
