California Governor Hopeful Buys Up Local TV Airtime

Billionaire Republican Meg Whitman‘s gubernatorial campaign, which has deluged California voters with commercials and 500,000 Meg-themed magazines, is launching two efforts today – a 30-minute TV infomercial and an unprecedented series of video on-demand campaign spots to reach voters at their remote controls.

The former eBay CEO, who has vowed to spend $150 million to become governor, will debut the half-hour infomercial in the San Joaquin Valley, her campaign said. It will air on Fresno’s NBC affiliate, KSEE, at 5 p.m. today and on Bakersfield’s ABC affiliate, KERO, Sunday at 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Whitman’s campaign said the infomercial will be repeated around the state after this weekend.
