Buffalo Tops in NHL Viewers

Despite hosting the last place Buffalo Sabres, the NHL’s national broadcasts drew more Buffalo viewers that any other market during the 2014-2015 season, writes Buffalo News TV critic Alan Pergament.

There’s good and bad news in the numbers, though, for Buffalo NBC affiliate WGRZ, which airs the national games along with NBC Sports Network. Pergament also says overall this year, less people are tuning in than last year.

The Buffalo market was No. 1 this season with an average rating of 1.17 for 103 games on NBCSN and NBC. That was 0.02 points ahead of second-place Pittsburgh.

But the 1.17 rating was 35 percent lower than the 1.80 rating that Buffalo averaged on the NBC channels for 101 games during the 2013-14 season when the Sabres also finished last.
