Buffalo Reporter Leaves Station After 17 Years

George Richert is leaving Buffalo, N.Y., CBS affiliate WIVB at the end of February sweeps.

The Buffalo News reports Richert will leave local TV to become the director of communications for the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo.

“This really feels right,” said Richert, who started at WIVB in 1998. “It sounds corny. I’ve always believed to everything there is a time and a purpose. I really trust my timing on this move.”

“George has a deep and strong Catholic faith which makes him an ideal communications director,” said Bishop Richard Malone, bishop of Buffalo.”He has a strong understanding of the news media in the digital age, is well respected in the community, among his viewers, the sources he’s covered, and his fellow journalists. I look forward to working with George as we evangelize and work to build up the Kingdom of God here in the Diocese of Buffalo.”
