Boy Surprises Anchor Who Helped Him Find Adoptive Home

WFAA anchor Gloria Campos got a big surprise a few days before her retirement.

Ke’onte Cook, a boy who Campos twice featured on her Wednesday’s Child segment, showed up to surprise her and say thanks.

“I want to say to her thank you so much, because you’ve made my life worthwhile and you’ve helped me become the person that I am right now,” Cook told WFAA. “I probably would have been worse off had you not helped me out.”

Campos featured Cook on the Dallas ABC affiliate’s Wednesday’s Child segment in 2007. When that adoption didn’t go well, she featured him again in 2009.

“I’d like to say ‘thank you’ for putting him on the second time,” added his adoptive mother Carol Cook. “Because not only did you bring us the child that God wanted us to have — and we wouldn’t have seen him otherwise — but you’ve also helped him touch millions by him being able to talk about his story.”
