Boston Stations Cover Bomber Sentencing

By Kevin Eck

Boston’s local stations broke away from regular programming this afternoon around 2:40 p.m. to announce that a sentence had ben reached in the punishment phase of the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Marathon Bombing trial.

All of the stations told viewers the sentence would be read at around 3:00 p.m.

ABC affiliate WCVB warned viewers the process would take awhile since the court had a lot of documents to go through before the they’d find out if Tsarnaev got the death penalty. They, along with WFXT went with a double box, anchors in one and twitter feed in another to keep viewers up-to-date.

A TVSpy tipster tell us the stations plan to stay on air at least through their early evening newscasts, with some planning on either delaying network news coverage or coming back on air after with updates.
