Boise’s KBOI Hit with Justin Bieber Prank

By Andrew Gauthier

The website of Boise CBS-affiliate KBOI was the victim of an early April Fool’s Day prank yesterday, as someone set up a nearly identical website that contained a news story about a local ban on Justin Bieber music.

The fake story, attributed to the Associated Press, reported that Idaho Governor Butch Otter had signed “laws which outlaw the sale of Justin Bieber’s music and makes listening to his music within state limits against the law.”

KBOI’s real website alerted users to the prank yesterday afternoon. In the post, the Fisher-owned station stated:

Contrary to published reports, the kboi2.com site was not hacked and the security of our servers and site hosts was not compromised in any way. The person responsible for the fake site created an entirely new site with a different domain name and made it aesthetically identical to the real kboi2.com site.

The fake website has since been taken down. [via KTVB]
