ABC-affiliate WLOX announced Tuesday the promotion of Brad Kessie from his senior reporter position to station News Director. Kessie has been with the Biloxi, Mississippi station for 21 years, and has held a number of positions, including weekend assignment editor, anchor, and reporter.

Kessie, a Chicago native, graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. After a year covering Missouri politics, he moved to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi in 1988. He has been honored on numerous occasions for his reporting, including his coverage of Hurricane Katrina. Despite heavy damage to its studios, WLOX remained on the air throughout the hurricane, and continued to broadcast non-stop for more than 12 days afterward.

The Raycom-owned station began its search for a new News Director in August, when Dave Vincent, who had been serving as WLOX’s News Director and Station Manager, took on the role of General Manager full-time. Vincent said Tuesday, “It was a tough decision to make, as we had a number of excellent internal and external candidates.”
