Belo Reports 13% Fourth Quarter Decline, Points to Increase in Non-Political Advertising

Belo’s revenue for the fourth quarter of 2011 was down 13%, compared to the same period in 2010.  Belo today reported $180 million in fourth quarter revenue, which is $26 million less than the company brought in the previous year.

Explaining the decline in Q4 revenue, Belo emphasized a $30 million decrease in political revenue for the period.

Excluding political, Belo’s total spot revenue was up 3%, with a 6% increase in local spot revenue for the quarter.

Looking forward to 2012, Belo president and CEO Dunia Shive predicted revenue growth driven by the Super Bowl, the summer Olympics, and, perhaps most importantly, the upcoming election.
