Baltimore Station to Reveal New Set and Forecasting Tech

Scripps Baltimore ABC affiliate WMAR has announced it will debut a new state-of-the-art set tonight during its 5:00 p.m newscast.

According to WMAR, the set was 2 1/2 years in the making and was designed by Park Place Studios.

“WMAR’s advanced ‘digital news center’ studio represents thousands of hours of teamwork from the WMAR team,” said WMAR production manager Rob Brockmeyer. “It is with great pride that we will unveil the next generation of news and audience interaction on Monday, April 20th at 5pm.”

The set features 49 monitors, a 400 square foot center for social media and a new work area for the storm watch team.

WMAR also says its now using the WSI Max System for forecasting.

“It’s very exciting to bring an entirely new generation of forecasting technology to Maryland and the Baltimore region,” says chief meteorologist Wyatt Everhart. “The viewers of ABC2 will immediately notice the difference, not just in terms of the stunningly realistic visuals this system produces, but also the incredible power it gives each ABC2 meteorologist to have so much vital weather information right at their fingertips, displayable in a matter of seconds.”
