Austin Anchor Leaving Station to Spend More Time with Family

Terri Gruca is leaving Austin ABC affiliate KVUE on Friday.

The station said that Gruca, who has worked there since 2008, is “one of the top storytellers in Central Texas” and has been talking to management over the past few months about cutting her schedule to spend more time with her family.

At first, she shifted from 5 p.m. anchor to midday anchor in June. Now she says she has decided to leave the station and that any working parent would understand. “Our boys are starting to get more involved in school activities and I don’t want to miss out,” she said.

“Leaving has not been an easy decision for me, but one I feel I have to make right now for my family,” said Gruca. “My boys are making their way through these challenging times, and I want to make sure I can be there to help them navigate it all without feeling like I’m short siding them or KVUE.”

KVUE president and general manager Kristie Gonzales called Gruca the newsroom’s rock. “While we are sad to see her go, she will always be a part of the KVUE family,” said Gonzales. “We wish Terri and her family the best.”

Before joining KVUE, Gruca worked at WCCO in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., WSPA in Spartanburg, S.C., WBIR in Knoxville, Tenn., and WRAL in Raleigh-Durham, N.C.
