11Alive paid tribute to a longtime writer who lost her battle to cancer over the weekend.

According to the station’s website, Birnur Richardson spent three decades working at the NBC-affiliate in Atlanta.

“It has been a really difficult morning here at 11Alive Atlanta.  We lost one of our team, Birnur Richardson, lost her battle to cancer,” morning anchor Vinnie Politan told viewers during the morning show Monday.

She retired from the Tegna-owned station little more than a year ago. You can watch Richardson’s goodbye here.BIRNUR RICHARDSON _OP_6_CP__1493629348686_9329838_ver1.0
