Astrid Martinez Out at WBTV

By Aneya Fernando

yKKEumWKAstrid Martinez, a reporter at Charlotte CBS affiliate WBTV, has abruptly left the station.

According to The Charlotte Observer, Martinez covered a story earlier this month about a teen who shot a policeman. The report showed a post on the teen’s Facebook page which included the hashtag “#fuckthepolice.”

When the Observer asked how the expletive made it on the air, WBTV news director Dennis Milligan said the “picture was inadvertent and slipped through in the rush.”

As far as Martinez’s sudden departure, Milligan said it was a “personnel matter” and could not comment.

Martinez, who joined WBTV in July 2012 as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor, did not announce her departure on any of her social media pages.

Prior to joining WBTV, Martinez was an anchor at KGBT, the CBS affiliate in Harlingen, Texas.
