Anchor Yvonne Nava Leaving NBC Connecticut

By Andrew Gauthier

WVIT morning anchor Yvonne Nava is leaving the Connecticut NBC O&O for a job in Texas.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Nava is the mother of a young boy and she’s making the move to be closer to her family. Nava, who has been with WVIT since December 2007, is set to depart the station at the end of the month.

“For the past five years, Yvonne has jumped into the community,” WVIT general manager David Doebler told the Hartford Courant. “She has done a lot of good stuff on the air and in the community and the opportunity to go back with her child to be close to her family is understandable.”

“NBC Connecticut has been amazing,” Nava told viewers Friday morning, announcing her departure. “They have gone above and beyond to make sure that I met my career goal of being able to go home. They have been so wonderful.”

Although Nava has not yet announced her destination, Austin media blogger Bill Church reports that she met with KVUE news director Frank Volpicella about a month ago and discussed the Austin ABC-affiliate’s open morning anchor position.

A native of Laredo, Nava started out her career working in small markets around Texas, including San Angelo and Lubbock.
