It looks like a white Oklahoma morning anchor who compared her black co-anchor to a baby gorilla on-air will keep her job.
Alex Housden, who co-anchors the morning news at Oklahoma City ABC affiliate KOCO, made the remark to Jason Hackett during a story last Thursday about a baby western lowland gorilla named Fin who was being featured on Instagram.
The next day, Housden apologized.
Yahoo News reports a KOCO spokesperson told them, “We believe that Alex’s apology and Jason’s acceptance of her apology and his comments on the broader issue are sufficient.”
“I’m here this morning because I want to apologize, not only to my co-anchor Jason but to our entire community,” Housden told viewers Friday.
“I said something yesterday that was inconsiderate, that was inappropriate, and I hurt people. And I want you to understand how much I hurt you out there,” Housden told Hackett. “And how much I hurt you.”
Hackett accepted her apology and added, “I want to let everybody out there know that Alex is one of my best friends.”
“I do love you,” he said. “All that being said, and Alex would be the first to say this to you. What she said yesterday was wrong. It cut deep for me, and it cut deep for a lot of you in the community.”
