Amanda Knox Verdict Covered Extensively in Seattle, Knox’s Hometown

By Merrill Knox

Three Seattle stations spent the afternoon reporting on an international story with a local angle: Seattle native Amanda Knox was acquitted of murder charges shortly after 12:45 p.m.PT this afternoon.

Both NBC-affiliate KING and CBS-affiliate KIRO extended their regularly-scheduled noon newscasts to report on the Knox verdict. Both stations stayed on the air well past 1 p.m. ABC-affiliate KOMO broke in to “The Chew” shortly before the verdict, at 12:48 p.m., broadcasting a special report that lasted just under 13 minutes.

None of the three stations aired the special reports offered by their nationally affiliated networks, choosing instead to use their own anchors and reporters. On cable, Fox News Channel took a live KOMO feed of the group “Friends of Amanda” waiting to hear the verdict.
