Albany Station Fills Meteorologist Vacancy After 2 Months

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WTEN is finally filling a meteorologist position that’s been vacant since March.

Jill Szwed will join the station in Albany, N.Y., from WLEX, the NBC affiliate in Lexington, Ky., where she’s been for the past four years.

“I’ve enjoyed the warmer climate over the past several years, but I also miss ‘real’ winter weather,” Szwed says. “My passion for the weather was sparked by snow and winter weather. My parents have pictures of me out in the snow in the middle of the Blizzard of ’93. … I’m excited to get back to my roots and forecast some real deal snow this winter.”

Szwed, who’s originally from Pittsburgh, will finish her time in Kentucky on May 24. She’ll be on the air in the mornings in Albany with Christina Arangio, Ryan Peterson and Nicol Lally.

She’ll start shortly after she arrives in New York.
