Alabama Meteorologist Dies at 63

WDHN meteorologist Connor Vernon has died at the age of 63.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Connor,” said news director Stephen Crews. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Sue and the rest of his family.”

There’s no word how Vernon died. The Dothan, Alabama ABC affiliate reports Vernon had a heart attack in 2015 and was off the air for nearly three months.

“I worked so hard to do my job well but Connor was so much better and he made it look so easy,” said WTVY’s Ken Curtis, who knew Vernon since they worked in radio in the 70’s. “If there was a man who had natural broadcast ability it was the man I called ‘Vern.’ Our closest moments would come during occasional trips to Waffle House. We’d just sit and talk for two hours, once ordering a second full breakfast to keep our seats.”

He started his career in radio before working in TV in Florida, Texas and at WTVY and WSFA in Alabama. He returned to Dothan as executive director of Dothan Botanical Gardens before joining WDHN in 2014.
