After Contract Negotiations Fail, Romona Robinson Will Leave WKYC

By Merrill Knox

Romona Robinson, the evening anchor at Cleveland’s WKYC for 15 years, is leaving the NBC-affiliate after failing to come to an agreement with station management over a new contract.

“Coming off a long-term contract, we certainly wanted to make this work,” WKYC general manager Brooke Spectorsky told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. “Obviously, Romona has been a significant part of the station for 15 years. She’s done a lot for us, but our world and our business have changed over the last eight years, so there are very mixed feelings about this.”

Her last day on air will be December 16. Specktorsky said the channel has been auditioning candidates for Robinson’s replacement as the co-anchor of the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts, and that they plan on making an announcement “quite soon.”
