Savannah Sports Reporter Gets Promoted, After Covid-19 Hospitalization This Summer

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

Lyndsey Gough, the Savannah sports reporter who was hospitalized with Covid-19 earlier this year, has some good news to share with viewers: she has been named WTOC‘s new sports director.

“Since my coworkers know, I’ll make it official: I’m the new WTOC11 Sports Director!” she wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “Thrilled for the opportunity and to bring you all more stories on our incredible local athletes and teams.”

The journalist fell ill over the summer and was diagnosed in late June. At the time, she believed she was exposed to the virus while covering a sports event. She was admitted in the hospital in early July, where she needed to have her appendix removed. She remained in the hospital for nearly a month alone before being discharged in late July.

The sports anchor tweeted day and night about her experience and symptoms. She has since returned back to work now that she is recovered.
