Hartford’s WTNH Cuts Veteran Meteorologist Geoff Fox After 26 Years

By Andrew Gauthier

After 26 years with WTNH, veteran meteorologist Geoff Fox is being shown the door. The New Haven/Hartford ABC-affiliate has decided not to renew Fox’s contract, which is set to expire at the end of February.

“So, how was your day at work? Probably better than mine,” Fox wrote on his blog after receiving the news Wednesday afternoon.

Fox joined WTNH in the spring of 1984 following a four-year stint with Buffalo’s WGRZ.  Fox became WGRZ’s weathercaster almost by accident and he quickly taught himself how to chart and forecast the weather, eventually earning a certificate in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University.

“I’ve had a really, really good run here,” Fox told the Connecticut Post. “The people of Connecticut have been unbelievably nice to me and unbelievably gracious. I will be forever grateful to them–really. My paycheck may be paid by the television station, but I work for the viewers.”

Fox plans to work through the end of his contract.
