After 25 Years, New York Reporter Set to Retire

Since 1996, Tappy Phillips has made people squirm when she showed up, camera in tow, to right a wrongdoing on WABC/Ch. 7‘s “7 on Your Side” segments.

Tonight, Phillips will feel like she’s on the hot seat when, after 25 years reporting for Ch. 7, she says goodbye on the 11 p.m. news.

“I’m not really comfortable with accolades and tributes,” Phillips said yesterday. “I understand the station wants to do something; it’s not something I’ll enjoy.”

The decision to leave is all hers. A moving company is packing up her place in New York and she’s heading to her home in Delaware, which sits next to a golf course.

“She is a great reporter. She is tenacious, she is focused, she is hardworking, she is intelligent,” said Ch. 7 news director Kenny Plotnik. More…
