Whitsett previously worked at Omaha ABC affiliate KETV. While at the station, Whitsett, an Iraq veteran, was arrested and charged with a DUI. He took an unpaid leave of absence from the station and later returned to work, where he asked viewers for their forgiveness.
WESH news director Kirsten Wolff didn’t mention Whitsett’s arrest in her statement regarding her new hire.
“Adrian’s experiences as a Marine and as a seasoned journalist give him a unique point of view that will connect with Central Florida’s large military community,” she said.
Whitsett starts work at WESH on January 27.
