ABC7 Welcomes Back Longtime Anchor Paul Berry

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

Chances are that you’ve heard of the brand, “7 On Your Side.” Longtime news anchor Paul Berry is credited with creating it.

And now the face of WJLA in the Washington, D.C. area for decades recently returned to his old stomping grounds to visit his work family. Twenty years after leaving ABC7, the man known for his booming voice, was greeted with warm hugs, smiles and lots of laughs. And this time, he brought with him a valuable health lesson.

“I feel like I’m home, I feel like home,” Berry said.

However the past year has been a rough road after he suffered from a stroke.

“First of all, I would have a stoke … a stroke?? Me … I … I … can’t have a stoke,” he explained.

It just hit him one night when he was watching TV with his wife. A man who made his living talking couldn’t get the words out, “I couldn’t talk,” said Berry.

Berry says he now exercises and takes care of himself in a new way.

“My diet has changed, I don’t eat as much crap,” explained Berry.

The veteran of the Washington, D.C. News world is now taking it easy and and spending more time with his 18-month-old granddaughter.
