Toledo Station’s Cringeworthy Attempt to Get ‘Turnt’ Goes Viral

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WTOL’s attempt to come across as hip with teens has flopped—at least in the eyes of most adults on social media.

The Toledo, Ohio, station put together a promo wishing local kids luck during test week. They used a lot of slang words to connect with their audience and it turned out to be one of the most cringewrothy things you’ll see this week. It’s also gone viral.

The segment opened with “Stay woke, be on fleek, and get that Gucci breakfast,” and then the co-anchor chimed in with, “GOAALLLLS! Say ‘Bye, Felicia’ to that testing stress!” She added the weather was going to be “turnt.”

If that wasn’t enough, the traffic and weather anchors dropped “OKUUURRRR,” a phrase inspired by rapper Cardi B and “FOMO.”

The video was posted online and has received more than 3.4 million views.

You can watch them “slay”—well, more like the exact opposite of that—here.
