Ernie Bjorkman is returning to local TV and Denver Tribune-owned station KWGN after being laid off in 2008.
Bjorkman, who was the main anchor at KWGN for 10 years, went on to work as a veterinary technician and even traveled to Ethiopia after joining the Peace Corps in 2013. He started working in Denver in 1982 as a field anchor for KMGH.
“When KWGN contacted me about coming back, I was ecstatic” said Bjorkman. “Returning to the anchor desk at Channel 2 is a dream come true for me.”
Bjorkman will will replace Tom Green alongside Natalie Tysdal, Chris Tomer, Sam Boik and Chris Parente from 5 to 9 .am.
“Replacing an anchor who has been on a newscast for 15 years is no easy task” said vp of news Holly Gauntt. “When it was all said and done, it was obvious that there was one person who should sit in the Daybreak anchor chair, Ernie Bjorkman!”
Green announced his departure from the station at the end of January.
“It’s been a long journey but now I’m back where I belong, working with people I know, and doing what I love” said Bjorkman.
