3 Months After Bone Marrow Transplant, Sports Anchor Jim Donovan Returns to WKYC

Jim Donovan, a longtime Cleveland sports anchor who has been absent from WKYC for three while recovering from a bone marrow transplant, is returning to the air in time for the Cleveland Browns’ first game of the season.

Donovan — who is also the radio voice of the Browns — will return to the radio airwaves in time for the 1 p.m. game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. On Monday, he will return to his post as sports anchor on the 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. broadcasts.

The 55-year-old Donovan revealed last spring that he has been battling chronic leukemia since 2000. On June 7, he underwent a bone-marrow transplant. Prior to the medical leave of absence he took to recover from the procedure, he treated his leukemia with chemotherapy — while still managing to maintain his responsibilities for both radio and WKYC, the Cleveland NBC affiliate.
