10 Months After WFLD Departure, Veteran Reporter Mark Saxenmeyer Will Join KSTP

Former WFLD reporter Mark Saxenmeyer, who was cut loose at the Fox O&O in December after 16 years with the station, has landed at KSTP, where he will start October 3 as a reporter.

Saxenmeyer, who lived in Bloomington, MN until he was 18, grew up watching KSTP, the ABC-affiliate in Minneapolis. “It’s the station that made me want to get into TV news in the first place,” he told TVSpy in an email. “They’re a vibrant TV news operation.”

Saxenmeyer has been honored with several awards for his reporting, including a national Edward R. Murrow award and multiple Emmys.

“What’s most heartening to me is that [KTSP is] interested in hiring someone who has some grey hair,” Saxenmeyer said. “In an age when it seems being a ‘veteran’ (a.k.a. over the age of 40) in the TV news biz puts a bullseye on your back, and people with little or no experience are landing the jobs (even in the third-largest TV market), let’s just say I’m thrilled to be given this opportunity in the 15th-largest market.”
