Zoey Tur: Daughter Katy ‘Has to Meet Me to Find Out Who I Am’

By Mark Joyella

In her first television interview since she underwent gender reassignment surgery, Zoey Tur tells “Inside Edition” her previous life, as macho news helicopter pilot “Chopper Bob” Tur was “an act.” Tur said despite a high-flying career, marriage and a few fistfights, Bob Tur never truly felt like a man. “It was an act,” said Tur. “I was portraying a part.”

One person who Tur says has not adjusted well to the transition is daughter Katy Tur, an NBC News correspondent who remains estranged from Tur. “She saw her father a certain way, a hero pilot” Tur said. “Bob Tur was legendary, and she liked that. She has trouble with that, and she should. She has to meet me and find out who I am.”

Tur just signed on with “Inside Edition” as a “special correspondent”, and the show says she is “America’s first transgender reporter.” In the interview, Tur talks to longtime friend Jim Moret, who admits it “takes some getting used to” seeing Tur as a woman.
