After months of getting body slammed, Linda McMahon is ready to suplex the competition with her tag-team partner and husband, Vince McMahon.
The WWE has launched a new viral campaign called “Stand Up For WWE,” asking fans to voice their support for the sports entertainment company.
As Linda runs for Senate in the state of Connecticut, she’s faced a series of attacks because of her former involvement with the WWE, where she was CEO until stepping down last September.
Opponent Richard Blumenthal and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee have pointed out the WWE’s safety standards and tolerated drug use over the years in the months leading up to the Nov. 2 election.
As a last-ditch effort to sway voters, Vince is hoping the WWE Universe can help set the record straight as the Stamford-based company will attempt to “correct factual inaccuracies that have been reported during this election season.”
The 65-year-old Chairman and CEO of the WWE along with several superstars will appear in videos discussing various topics including WWE’s PG content, treatment of WWE’s full-time employees and its performers, and WWE’s Talent Health and Wellness Program.
“The nearly 600 full-time WWE employees, as well as its 140 Superstars, all work for one reason – to put smiles on people’s faces,” said Vince McMahon. “The inaccurate media reports about our company are not only an injustice but an insult to our millions of fans worldwide.”
Unrelated to their campaign are two upcoming shows scheduled in the state of Connecticut – – a fan appreciation night in Hartford on Oct. 30 and a Friday Night Smackdown taping in Bridgeport on Nov. 2, election day.
The WWE has indeed cleaned up their act over the years, much to the disappointment of hardcore wrestling fans. The days of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin flipping fans the bird are long gone. Instead, WWE fans are left with boring storylines, no blood and over-the-top babyfaces like John Cena.
Here’s to Blumenthal winning the election and the return of the WWE pushing the boundaries of sports entertainment once again.
