World News Tonight Wins The Week When Nightly News Doesn’t Count

By Chris Ariens

ABC’s World News Tonight won the week among total viewers while NBC Nightly News won the week in the demo.

But NBC won’t be including the week in its seasonal average as it made the extremely rare decision to re-title the full week of broadcasts. The Monday and Thursday editions received low coverage because of the Stanley Cup Finals, but the Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday telecasts were re-titled, to NBC Nitely News, despite airing at full coverage levels (93 percent.) Due to the NBA Finals World News Tonight is based on three days: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The CBS Evening News is based on 5 days.

Compared to the same week last year ABC was up +8 percent in viewers and down -4 percent in the demo; NBC was down -12 percent in viewers and down -5 percent in the demo and CBS was down -8 percent in viewers and down -15 percent in the demo.
