Williams: “Covering This Presidential Election is Like Catnip For Me”

By SteveK

Brian Williams writes a first person account of his experience covering the 2008 presidential election in the new issue of TV Guide, that hits newsstands tomorrow. Williams describes his excitement in covering this year’s election, and some observations about his NBC News team.

Williams says the media has been as surprised as viewers throughout the election season. “A lot of assumptions have been proven wrong,” he writes. “It seems like every Tuesday night, NBC Washington bureau chief Tim Russert and I have been here on the air late into the night, eating take-out food during breaks and talking about yet another primary contest that is inconclusive.”

Williams is very complimentary of Russert, his partner in moderating last night’s debate on MSNBC and often on the air. “I’ve got Russert — someone I wouldn’t want to be up against covering politics. I don’t think there’s anyone better, in print or broadcast,” he writes.
