Why Pope Francis Hasn’t Watched TV in 25 Years

By Chris Ariens

Pope Francis made a promise 25 years ago to stop watching TV. And he’s kept that promise since. In an interview with Argentinian newspaper La Voz Del Puebolo, the Pope said “I read only one newspaper, La Repubblica I do it in the morning and do not take more than 10 minutes. I leaf through. I have not watched television since 1990. It’s a promise I made to the Virgen del Carmen on the night of July 15, 1990.”

As for why he’s kept the TV turned off: “I said this ‘is not for me.'”

This also means he hasn’t watched his favorite soccer team San Lorenzo. He says he gets the results from a Swiss guard.
