“Why Can’t CNN” Be More Like NPR?

By Brian

Cable news constantly makes mountains out of molehills, Katherine Lee writes on the Tuscaloosa News’ Web site. “At least with print or radio, you get a breather in between editions or broadcasts so you can step back and do some assessment of what’s really important for people to know, and what’s really just prurient detail. I don’t think CNN distinguishes between the two.”

She wishes CNN was more like NPR: “I just wish the news networks did a better job of letting people know why this news is important and how it will affect them. NPR does this, with a headline story, then several 2-minute segments with the background, the nuance, the details, the players. Why can’t CNN? It would certainly give people more to chew on than the same screaming headline over and over.”
