News consultant Andrew Tyndall has more research posted and he’s put together a list of the most reported stories from 2009 on the ABC, CBS, and NBC evening newscasts.

Across all three networks, the health care debate consumed the most total airtime, 588 minutes. Individually, ABC spent 205 minutes on health care, the most of any story. The newscasts shared the same top three stories, but each spent the most time on a different one. CBS spent the most of its airtime on Afghanistan, 220 minutes. For NBC, it was the Influenza H1N1 virus outbreak, on which the network spent 222 minutes.

The recession and the automobile industry’s bankruptcy round out the top 5 for all three.
