NBC’s Al Roker is calling out CNN for dubbing severe weather along the Eastern seaboard a Nor’easter when, in fact, it’s not.

The National Weather Service, has not called this storm a Nor’easter. Neither has The Weather Channel, which is again naming storms and calling this one Winter Storm Boreas.
CNN was not alone in dubbing the storm a Nor’easter. WNYC did so did the Los Angeles Times — but we’ll give them a pass, since they’re nowhere near the Northeast.
> Update: Turns out early in the storm’s development, throughout the weekend and into Monday the National Weather Service office in Mt. Holly, NJ did label the storm a Nor’Easter. But by the 10:30am briefing Tuesday morning, the Nor’easter label was dropped in favor of Coastal Storm. “Purists are saying [to be a Nor’Easter] it has to be offshore,” the NWS’s Gary Szatkowski tells TVNewser. “When it got closer in, we did adjust the terminology.” Szatkowski adds, “Impacts are what matter to people. As we learned from Sandy, labels are simply a way to get people’s attention. I don’t have a problem using the terminology in this case.”
