What Are We Calling Today’s East Coast Primaries?

By Chris Ariens

Don’t hurt on those local TV news anchors who aren’t quite sure how to pronounce what the East Coast media elite have dubbed today’s vote. It’s being called the Acela Primary, so named because Amtrak’s high-speed rail service travels through many of the states voting today.

But if you had to read it cold on live TV, having never seen the word Acela, how would you say it? Bloomberg Politics cobbled together some of the choicest mispronunciations. In 2020, why don’t we just decide to call it Northeast Regional Corridor Tuesday. That has a nice ring to it.
