Week of May 6 Morning News Ratings: GMA and CBS Mornings See Week-to-Week Growth

Both ABC News’ Good Morning America and CBS News’ CBS Mornings saw week-to-week gains in either total viewers or Adults 25-54 demo for the week of May 6.

GMA experienced growth in the latter category, while CBS Mornings saw an uptick in the former. The CBS morning show also publicly celebrated an end of week win, as its Friday edition edged past GMA by 5,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo—436,000 versus 431,000—securing its 12th demo win over its ABC rival this broadcast season.

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.724 million total viewers and 502,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week. Compared to the previous week, GMA’s performance was down -2% in total viewers, but up +2% in the demo. Looking back to the same week in 2023 (the week of May 8), GMA was down in total viewers by -12% and -25% in the A25-54 demo.

Meanwhile, NBC News’ Today show remained No. 1 in the A25-54 demo with 626,000 viewers and ranked second in total viewers with 2.696 million. That’s a total viewer decline of -3% and a -7% tumble in the demo. Compared to 2023, Today was down a respective -3% and -12% in those measured categories.

Even as it topped GMA in the A25-54 demo on Friday, CBS Mornings ranked third for the week overall, with an average of 2.187 million total viewers and 419,000 demo viewers. Compared to the previous week, the show was up +1% in total viewers and down -1% in the demo. Placed alongside its 2023 performance, CBS Mornings fell in total viewers by -7% and -14% in the demo.
