We Report (On Putnam County), You Decide

FNC CEO Roger Ailes recently took a page from his boss Rupert Murdoch and bought a New York newspaper. Don’t worry Posties — no competition here.

The New York Times’ Brian Stelter reports Ailes bought his local newspaper, the Putnam County News and Recorder, last month, and the paper announced the sale last Wednesday. The 142-year-old publication has a circulation of about 3,000 in Putnam County, NY. ”

Stelter quotes Ailes wife, Elizabeth Ailes, who will serve as publisher. “It’s a really quaint paper,” she said. “It reflects the community. We really like it, and that’s why Roger wanted to buy it.”

Elizabeth is no media novice — she worked for NBC, CNBC and America’s Talking in the 1990s.

We went to the web site to see if we could get an idea of the editorial tone of the paper — we’re not sure how to take this, but the lead column in the archive is, “Let’s Go Cook Sweet Potato Meringue Pie.” (although it appears the site could use some updating — the URL on the column indicates it is from 2001.)
